take my 7.75 usd god damn it

ya deserve it

(+3)

waow!! orson actually did it, i can hug and even nap with the survivors now!! that was like... one of my biggest wishes once i saw the traders the first time ^w^

i am so joyous about that, it is very cute (i havent gotten to the new area yet, but the new trade interface is nice)

i am excited to see what else will happen with this interactive audiovisual entertainment medium, though dont forget to take breaks when needed and stuff! stay safe silly and sillies :P

(+4)

petition to make blueprint only unlock new recipes

(1 edit)

game is amazing and I'm addicted. but I found a bug if you spawn in a drill pod at layer 4 and use it you go to frozen chasms, and then if you save at the end of the empty layer, when you try to go into layer 7 you can't ever leave the loading screen. obviously, this is usually only with commands but just saying. :) also i found barely any enemies to test out my weapons. might just be a me problem though so idrc

Wait was there a update? I  noticed the game looks different, I haven't played this game in a while..

Yea this game was updated few days ago

Huh?

(+1)

friggin epic game, thank you orsonik i fw you heavy

(+3)

While I've WATCHED a lot of Project Zomboid stuff, this is my first time actually playing a game similar to it (besides Rain World)... and this is a great introduction to the genre! I turned Trap Amount down to 20% because I'm a coward, but I had a lot of fun with the game anyways, and it was still pretty difficult.

My first little goober unfortunately died of starvation, but after discovering you can throw Glow Berries down pits to illuminate them and determine how safe the fall would be, my second ongoing attempt has gotten me to Layer 2 so far.

My only complaints so far are that

  • it's difficult to find enough food to get rid of the Underweight and Skinny debuffs
  • the Recipes in the Crafting menu don't explain what the item you're crafting actually DOES when you hover your mouse over them
  • the Bag menu can clip offscreen if you're too high up, or too far to the right Screen Border, making you unable to access your items until you move away from the edge of the screen.

Otherwise, SOLID game, absolutely love it, I feel so bad for the little creature whenever they get hurt. If this releases on Steam, I'm buying it day one.

(+1)

in the same vein as turning the trap amount down, you can turn the loot volume up in the same menu to find more food.

This game really peaked my attention and I think it looks really cool.
While it's already quite rich in mechanics, I don't find it enjoyable to play, though.

Why:
1. there is no pause button, yet it can take an hour even to just reach level 2.
2. things happen too fast, you barely get a moment to take a breather, because the moment you let your character take a break, there is an earthquake. How is a fracture supposed to heal on its own, if there is always something going on?
3. the character and the items can't hold still. On one hand this leads to constant injuries, especially during sleep, but it's also annoying as heck to pin point click a tiny item that is shaking or even zooming around the floor for NO reason.
4. any injury gets infected. why? even when my arm didn't bleed it's suddenly infected... there was no way for me to avoid it and now it's a long lasting issue.
5. lack of instructions. I don't know how to use some of these items and there is no way for me to pause the game and look things up, so it would be helpful to get a bit more information during gameplay.

If these are intentional, than I admit, it's going to go well with the crowd that loves this.
Personally I would like to come back to this, after a few updates and see if it is more playable for me.

(+2)

As far as Why 1. goes, i've noticed the game pauses whenever you tab out, i'd try that!

(+3)

the game does in fact have a tutorial but if it doesnt help you there is always a way to see what an item does by pressing shift.

Thank you!
I did find the tutorial a bit difficult to follow. I'd personally rather have a wiki or simply a long text explaining everything, because I can read that at my own pace.

(+1)

I think 3. with items happens when there is water that is moving back and forth on the ground and for some reason that applies ridiculous amounts of velocity to the items in it, and I don't think is intentional.

As for 4., I believe a body part with very low skin health can get infected if you don't cover it with bandages. Your character tends to communicate this risk to you I think unless there are more pressing matters at hand, and I've noticed it does get infected eventually if you don't wrap it up or heal the skin fast, even if there is no bleeding wound on it or you cleared out an infection on there before.

(+1)

And infections are effected by overall immunity of body. Might have a shitty blood lost and wounds, but as long you have high immunity you can patch yourself up and go way deeper down.

That makes me wonder if there is a secret immunity stat that is random? It felt like on that specific run, my character just couldn't get rid of infections and I have no idea why, I treated them immediately and kept them treated. On that run I also had a surprising amount of food supplies, so I kept fed. Sleep was another issue I had to constantly deal with, because I had to dig a lot.
During the entire run my character kept complaining about their paw, but I didn't know which one they meant and there was also no status icon that explained what was going on. The sudden infection then appeared on a shoulder.
Maybe this is related to all the digging?

As far i seen, all infections comes from skin status and immunity. Low immunity and skin durability, infection on 30% is on (cuz usually i take notice that spawns on that). Much pain status on exact part might effect on character.

On add, you can overfed and make character fat (but I am sure that chubby is a effect. Fed a lot fat things (chunk of meat, hamburger)).

And too say, I am not sure of all, but I can say that what I observed so far. So take all with some grand of salt (or what was say).

my characters wish that they are overfed and chubby... I ususally end up being too thin, because I can't find enough high-calorie food sources...
My run yesterday actually ended with my character dying from starvation in the desert and that was the most successful run I had so far.
However I did watch other people play the game now and it seems that I've been mostly unlucky with loot. Also people do sometimes eat the flesh of corpses and I've not seen that have a bad effect, yet.

(-1)

Do you are familiar with Fear And Hunger?

(+4)

The way that game does not let you die instantly... It's something new
The game is really dark, in all means (in literally ALL means, i cant fckn see anything most of the time)

Dark because of theming, and dark, because it is literary black void with surprise turrets and spikes.

Can't even pause the game so I can go to the toilet. Pretty big design oversight there...

(+2)

select other window and game should pause. for now its the only way i know

(+10)

BRO. BRO LOCK IN. BRO STOP TRYING TO KILL YOURSELF I NEED YOU TO LOCK IN

this is so real

(+3)(-1)

Surprisingly good for a furry game! At least it isn't self-indulgent and there's actually a lore reason...

The lack of an end goal is really making me kinda demotivating me from playing (what's the point if I can't win, y'know?) but otherwise it's amazingly rewarding, gorey, and fun! When this gets a full release I'll seriously consider purchasing!

(also pls add mod support after a full release lol)

have you gotten to the end?

(+3)

there is no end it is repeating

Yep. Is like never ending caves that's goes way deeper than anything. (There's guy that get to 10K meters down.)

I offer my deepest apologies! But is there any simple mode or gameplay settings???    (the translation may not be accurate)

(2 edits)

There is a way to change the amount of traps and other stuff in the main menu / title screen :D

Linux build? Asking for the future in case if I will like this somehow.

(-1)

I love this game and i hate this game, but thats not a criticism, in fact i made an account specifically to commend and thank you for making this, while simultaneously complaining and recommending some features; mainly: climbing/crawling, I know these "realistic" type games like CDDA or Zomboid are a nightmare to streamline given their complexity, but given that its a cave game one way or another i would like a way to go back up? i guess theres allready walljumping but i would love if i could climb ropes or something, or hold on to stuff like walls or whatever during earth quakes, or so i can slowly climb down a ledge by clingling to it and slowly climbing down that way instead of jumping down the abyss directly onto a bear trap, and yes i expect it to make me exhausted so that my sick guy passes out mid climb due to being tired and i get another concussion. too many times i have been unable to get past a one block jump because i guess my legs were broken and im tired, whatever, let me climb up that ledge and crawl around with my hands. I get that this is an uttely hopeless situation but more realistic ways of traversing the environment wouldnt even make it easier theres allready a jetpack and a grappling hook and those havent saved me, in fact they probably only make things worse for me! youve got a real gem in your hands!

(+4)

You actually don't have to simply jump into the abyss and hope to survive. If you jump into a wall and hug it as you go down, you slide slower and won't break most of the bones in your body. Saying this, I still manage to do so and make myself feel terrible frequently-- I love these poor critters already.

you know what? youre right. I didnt know you could build with scrap metal and honestly the walljumping can get you pretty far, at this point all my complaints would basically boil down to the fact that this is a prototype and the game is nowhere near finished, in fact it almost feels like i would be wasting my breath pointing them out except to catalogue them, i think certain things such as durability should last longer, and maybe its a feature and not a bug but runs are very luck based. its hard to tell what level of hopelessness is intended, given that the whole point is that the mission is impossible and a horribly miserable death is inevitable, but im sure the game will become more fleshed out eventually!

I've been watching gameplay of this and I can already tell this game is right up my ally, the pixel art and animation is lovely and I adore in-depth survival sims like this. I know this is in prototype so this is probably(? I'm not familiar with how optimizing games across different OS's work so forgive me if I'm wrong) something left for later in the process, so no rush, but I would love if there were eventually a MacOS compatible version!

(+1)

7 months later and i still find myself revisiting this game, it's just so good. also glad it finally caught the spotlight it deserves. still looking forward for new updates.❤️

(1 edit) (+5)

Now, after some hours (and dying a long way) spend in caves, I slowly wonder if there's any mayor collective of survivors. Like in mid-layer stumble on village or small city full of survivors (or even whole layer, small layer, dedicated to survivors) to trade or take rest before continue onward. If there's send out thousands of Expies on that planet, surely there's a collective out there (or at least explained why such thing won't work).

I find out a note about trying to leave to surface.

I will put it here:

"I met up with someone, we agreed to try to out to the surface through one of those holes to outside. My friend stepped out first, and immediately they started stumbling in shock. They seemed to be in a lot of pain. They vomited a bunch, then collapsed and stopped breathing soon after. They skin started blistering too, specially around the head and neck. Something is preventing us from leaving. Im scared."

Welp those chips aren't just for health check-ups. I will call this note "Trying to Leave". Whatever I find interesting like lore vise (like this note) I will put here as another reply. At least we got the answer why they won't get out from here.

(+3)

I’ve played a lot of horror in my day, but this is the only game to consistently instill genuine terror.

The traps. The cries for help. Dwindling hope. The agony. The blood — oh God, the blood…

… and the creatures.

Though still in development, you’ve made something amazing already. Let me throw money at you to help finish it.

(+3)

I agree. It's not even claiming to be a horror game. It's just that the game knows how to use tension and your attachment to your character to it's advantage. Even without it's realistic damage system, your character's mood and the fact it talks makes it so sad to see them suffer.

(+1)

Why is the experiments blood yellow? The game still refers to the experiments cells needing oxygen to function, then what protein does their body utilize to transport that oxygen if not hemoglobin? Is there actual science or reason behind this or is it just classic sci-fi mumbo jumbo?

they probably dyed the haemoglobin yellow or smth idk

(1 edit) (+3)

Yellow blood is seen on our planet in some beetles and sea cucumbers. this is because they have vanadin instead of haemoglobin, vanadin contains vanadium which colours yellow when in the presence of oxygen. Though vanadin does not help with the transport of oxygen and is most likely though to be a defence mechanism as vanadium can be toxic, though this is not 100% sure. These animals instead transport their oxygen by just dissolving it in their blood. This is not as efficient but due to their bodies requiring less oxygen they can get away with this. this is also why red blood is so common due to it just being very efficient. Though I think this is not likely as the experiment would just need way more oxygen than yellow blood can provide. So I think it's not actually based on that and just a colour chosen for gameplay/lore purposes

P.S.

I am not an expert on this and this mostly from the knowledge I have from being interested in subjects like these and some googling

well it is half human half i forgot so just going to state the obvious that maybe the dna that mixed formed yellow blood, or it was for coolnes

im just wondering if there is some way to pause/save the game so i can continue my run later? sometimes i have to do something irl and time still passes ingame. really cool game tho! reminds me of rainworld with the movement system and the pain

The only opportunity for an interrupt save seems to be when you hit the transition between layers; you can either continue immediately, or save & quit on the spot.

(+4)

You can alt tab out of the game to pause

(+4)

Alt + tab pauses the game. There’s also a console command “timescale 0” which… well, sets the time scale to 0 lol

ah ok! thanks

(+1)

so just got too layer 4 and god is that place scary as fuck the jungle layer i mean its darker than all the other layers and i wont spoil it too much but the critters there are fucked like extra fucked you need a gun or good cutting tool like mini drill and flashlight as well.

other thing i did not expect was having my limb ripped off by a big fuck after losing my gun.

(+2)

I've never felt more intimately hopeless with a character than now

(+4)

Loving this game! I'm a big fan of how hopeless it feels, and for a demo/prototype it feels like a very complete experience.
One thing I would tweak though is the rarity of the earthquakes/tremors. Trying to sleep and then getting woken up with a bad sleep debuff by one is more frustrating than challenging.

(+1)

Also would love to see more lore in the future, feel bad for the little fellows.

(+1)

There's more information about the species in the game in Orsonik's other game: Gunsaw.

I think on overall what I'd like to see in this game is for a detailed difficulty system to be implemented, being able to tweak things like earthquakes and their frequency would be wonderful because reducing loot rarity doesn't really make the game much easier from my experience.

(+2)

I enjoy -lizard

P.S Try a settings menu before the intro, it might be nice for people to tweak audio beforehand.

(+5)

I didn't think I'd enjoy a furry sci-fi Noita-like this much but I guess you learn something new every day.

One little thing; the noise from the tutorial tablet thing when it is speaking and the intro typing noise are both very high pitched, I'd recommend deepening those to reduce ear irritation.

Other than that, great game! Love it so far. Looking forward to the future progress, it already feels complete to me.

(+1)

My second take on this game and yes, from the title you guessed it!
As a newt I just wasn't slippery enough, but I won't give up just yet, the 3rd part will start from level 2, stay tuned!

(+1)

Is there a mechanic in the game when if you have a gun and you're at low enough mood to self-harm, the character will actually shoot themself? In one of my recent runs I think I managed to stumble into getting stuck in a big ditch with the mentioned gun after getting my jaw annihilated by a spike trap, and I kinda wished it could just be over sooner... aside from using the fast-forward button that is.

i haven't gotten an actual gun yet (i just downloaded 4.01, before i was playing 3.0), but i'd imagine so

yep, they added it in update 4

Damn, better keep mood up. Candy bars should be collected.

(+3)

Geofruit also makes a great way to improve mood. They're really common, and taste good.

Really? Neat!

Yeah, this game seems to have lots of ways to change emotional state, like seeing corpses, eating something yucky, going through withdrawal getting hurt, or even just sleeping on something uncomfortable will make your character sadder, while taking your time, eating tasty things, and consumption of drugs makes you happy. I'd imagine that also communication with the survivors makes you happier, I just never really checked.

(1 edit) (+1)

Honestly a really fun game. I played for around an hour or two, got to layer 2 (had to stop since I'm playing at 3am and I need to sleeep).

The physics remind me of Barotrauma which I love. I cant wait for the next update! I'll be following!

(1 edit)

this may be a stupid question but how does one start the game I am not good with computer language so I have no clue what it means when it says

There should be 'CasualtiesUnknown_Data'

folder next to the executable

so where is the executable I really need help on this I do want to play the Demo

I did look for help in the comments either I am blind or I just couldn't find the comment that helps

(+2)

Once you open the game's folder you're going to see a file with the name "CasualtiesUnknown.exe" right below the folder "MonoBleedingEdge", generally, ".exe" files are executables, meaning, they open programs in your pc :)

(2 edits) (+1)

it should be on the main folder, it's got a little image with some light blue in it, i wanted to show you some images as a guide but it wont let me, if anything, you can find tutorials that'll teach you a bit more about computer's interface and such

Also, when you find the .exe file, double click on it, it should open the game right up c:

(+1)

thank you i appreciate the help :)

(+1)

assuming you are on windows
on the downloaded zip file
right click > extract all... > on the new window press Extract

open the CasualtiesUnknown folder
open CasualtiesUnknown.exe,
either the game starts or windows throws out a blue window saying it protected your pc
press More Info > press Run anyway

the game should open

when you get done reading and pressing left click to advance, there should be a maim menu

(+1)

thanks i appreciate the info :)

(+6)

One moment you are satisfied, have some tools and medical items for basically anything, and then you fall 50 meters, fracture every bone in your body and bleed out because you accidentally inject yourself with blood thinner, or too much fentanyl (quickly found out myself how fast injections go the hard way). And while your character is going to die regardless of anything you do, you panic because you've built a kind of social bond with them, which is even more painful since you do not immediately get a death screen, but your character actually has to die

I really hope this game gets more attention (and maybe even a Steam release?).

(+1)

Kinda need to add, they die when brain go die. So you stick to them littelary to the end.

i mean, i like how even when they are brain dead, you still watch as their other bodily functions cease, it really feels immersive and just shows how much work that the creator put into something as simple as your character dying

I can't say no to that...

Honestly, I wonder if there will eventually be a way to revive your character while he is dying in those phases. Maybe survivors will eventually be able to do like, CPR, which usually will do nothing but break a couple ribs, but potentially could save a run?

Well... Survivors are rare, much rarer than corpses. I don't much think so on that. I mean, do you expect seeing someone deep in a cave to even find you in time? The deeper you go, the less chance of that. So you on your own and what Accessor from Darkest Dungeon say "Watch your step." and "There can be no hope in this hell. No hope at all."

And really Ancestor is fitting in this game and his quotes.

(+8)

This game is incredible. I takes the best aspects of a rogue-like immersive sim like Noita, and then makes you care. The Experiment has emotions, it talks to itself. It's almost a cheap shot but the whimpers of pain are so horrible to hear. I want to keep this beast alive, and that makes every decision you take, every wrong step, every stray scratch so impactful. I love the Experiment too much to see it suffer. My baby. You really are devastated every time it gets hurt. And the fact that dying takes so long means you really get to dwell in that feeling at the end of a run. All the pieces fit together perfectly to make an, in most aspects, incredible game.

is it possible to have multiple save files or just one?

Just one, and only save when you reach next layer. Any quit or death (obvious) means end of run.

(+3)

(this is how I died right after my first run, I'm sharing because it was so memorable and taught me a lot)

so I just got down to the second layer feeling mad confident because I was chubby, had a backpack with stuff, no injury's and my characters mood was literally ecstatic and I proceeded to watched that all come crashing down when I stepped into a bear trap getting a leg fracture and severe bleeding then harassed by a spider and after I used up all my healing items I went to find a good place to sleep and heal just to step in glass. I ended up just sleeping on a flat rock ledge (second worst thing to do while hurt) I woke up in a new location losing the lantern and tool in my hands passed out after stepping in more glass. woke up in an entirely new location (again) nearly drowning in moss water and not even 30 seconds after that i crawled under rock to get out to be bear trapped again this time without healing for my arm. that's not all though I walked into barbed wire got through that and was unable to jump anymore because of my leg and blood loss. now at that point I was stuck between a large bit of rock and barbwire and at that point all I could do was rest and bleed out very slowly.

thanks for reading my poorly told story I loved the game and cant wait for more updates I'm going to do more runs now keep up the good work 🥰🥰🥰

Wow. That's most painful death that probably heard (better say read) so far.

(+2)

I forgot to mention that all happened because I was slightly thirsty and went to drink out of a small pool of mostly clean water (thanks for reading btw❤)

You're welcome. Better know what not to do when I will cave down into unknown.

(-3)

I think name scav prototype is a a lot better name than Casualties: Unknown but if you like that one better i understand

That fits as alternative name. But if creator wants name it Casualties: Unknown then leave it like that.

(2 edits)

Fell due to a geyser and my toolbox glitched through the roof into the room you need human dna to enter, picked it up through a 1 block hole I made, slept, woke up inside the room (probably fell through the 1 block gap) used dinamite to exit but did not have room to not be affected. My items and I glitched through the walls, floor and solid terrain. I was unable to reach any of them. I like the difficulty but this felt more of a glitch

Kinda is still demo of game. Bugs are expected.

oh... writing in english letters, being russian... anyway, even though i played very... VERY little, like five hours, I guess? i see that there is not that much content now... although i did see a smaller part... the game is really cool! when i first tried it, i felt so sorry for my character...

Let me guess, you get out from first layer? Or not yet? Cuz is so far 5 layers.

(+2)

Weh!

(idk why but i feel need follow) Weh!

This game look good, can't wait to see the next major update
